Plautdietsch word of the day: Chjlessen / chjlessi
Pronounced: ch-lesson \ ch-lessi
What it sounds like: a Chinese lesson
What it really means; to heap on, to apply a large amount

Example: Leina and Hein went to Mr. & Mrs. John Stoesz for Sunday faspa. The Stoesz were usually quite frugal (or stingy) with their money but did bring out both butter and Saskatoon jam for Sunday faspa. Leina and Hein’s youngest daughter Greita reached for a tweibach and spread on butter and jam, to which one of the Stoesz children exclaimed, “look mom!, si dait beides chjlesson” (she’s heaping on both butter and jam!)
