This year, International Woman’s Day recognizes Helena Peters. The Tourist Hotel in Steinbach was well known for it’s courteous service and home cooking. The Peters family owned the hotel from 1930-1972. A fact that seems lost on many is that the hotel’s purpose was more than that of a drinking establishment. The hotel had rooms for travelers, offered home cooked meals and also included a barbershop. Helena Peters cooked many a meal behind the stove at the Tourist Hotel and was well recognized as serving some of the best food in Steinbach. On the occasion of International Women’s day 2022, the designers at ObaYo recognize Helena Peters.
