"and suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Luke 2:13-14
The hymn "Angels We have Heard on High" originates from a French carol dating back to the 1700's. The blessed verse "Glory to God in the highest" was first sung when the hymn was translated into English in the mid 1800's.
The Latin wording "Gloria in excelsis deo" means Glory to God in the highest. Although we mostly sing this hymn around Christmas time, glorifying God is an everyday calling that Christians answer. Not only do we rejoice in everything that we are blessed with, but we are also humbled that God would love us so much.
